Donavan Creighton HANLY3 was born on 11 Feb 1900 in Shelbina, MO.162 He died in Jul 1976 in Ponca City, OK.218 Donovan attended Culver-Stockton College for one year, and following
World War I, earned an AB Degree with a major in chemistry and minors in
physics and biology, at The University of Missouri. While attending the
university, he was a member of a small orchestra that played dances and
dinner music at a hotel. For a while, he was in a theatre orchestra.
During two summers, he was on the road with a traveling band.

He continued graduate work at the University of Missouri, and the
University of Iowa. Later, he did graduate work at the State College at
Kirksville (MO) in the field of science education. In 1954-55 he was
President of the Missouri Science Teachers Association.

While teaching Physics in the high school in Hannibal, MO, he married
Dava Lee Hardesty in 1925. The two were in Canton, MO for a calendar
year, where Donovan taught in the college, and she had one year of
schooling. Their son Tedd was born in Hannibal in 1933. During World
War II, Donovan served on the Marion County Ration Board, and taught
classes in the government program of civilian and pre-military
Aeronautics at the airport. He also conducted a number of adult classes
in First Aid for the Red Cross. After a teaching career of forty-seven
years, he retired in 1968. Afterward, he worked in the laboratory of
Levering Hospital at Hannibal.

World War I: Donovan was attending the university in the fall of 1918,
when the draft was lowered to include men 18-20 years of age. He was
conscripted into the Student Army Training Corps, with a few thousand
other young men, and spent the remaining three months of the war
undergoing intensive training on the campus and south of Columbia.
Schoolwork was phased out as the Influenza struck the country. He spent
a month or two doing Military Hospital work, and was discharged in
December.

Fay HANLY3 was born on 24 Aug 1884 in Shelbina, MO.162 She died after 1959.162 Fay received her A.A. degree at Christian College in Columbia, MO and the
taught in a rural school near Shelbina for one or two terms about
1904-05. She helped mother around home, until her marriage in 1908, to
Wade Jones, a prominent local banker and landowner. Their two children:
Wade II and Joan were born in Shelbina. In the period between 1913-18,
the family lived in Appleton City, MO, near which he operated a farm.
After Wades death in 1918, Fay took a secretarial course at Gem City
Business College in Quincy, IL. She became a secretary to her
brother-in-law, Dr. J.H. Wood, President of Culver-Stockton College, and
remained in this position until he retired in 1937. Mother and Father
sold their home in Shelbina, and moved to Canton to be near Fay and her
children. Father was assistant editor of the Canton Press-News for about
ten years. Wade and Joan attended the Canton public schools, and later
completed college - the former at The University of Missouri, and the
latter at Culver-Stockton College.

Both mother and Fay had been active in the P.E.O. sisterhood in Shelbina
and Canton.

In the late 1930s, Fay moved to St. Paul, MN to be near Joan and Robert
Carley. Later, after Hunter had retired from his engineering business,
the two of them went to a beautiful retirement home near St. Paul.
