females, including his wife. He appeared in the census in 1800 in E Pennsboro twp, Cumberland county, Pa.65 The family consisted of 3 males under 10 years of age; 2 males
10-16 years of age, 1 male 16-26 years of age and Henry 45
years and up. There were 2 females under 10 years of age; 2
females 10-16 years of age and Henry's wife, 26-45 years of
age. He died in Mar 1804 in Cumberland county, Pa.66 He had his estate probated on 3 Dec 1804 in Cumberland county, Pa.67 Administrators of Henry's estate were Jacob, his son, and John
Wormley, perhaps a son-in-law. Orphans Court Docket #4 records
the guardian of his three minor children as David, Nancy and
Frederick Arnsberger. The final settlement was made in the
year 1812. He was also known as Henry. It appears from later records that this individual used his
middle name in his daily living. His father seems to have done
the same thing with his name, most often going by Henry. His reference number is 42. His reference number is AAR00053. Census records of Henry Arnsberger 1800 1810 1820 Henry
Ernstberger lived in Cumberland Co., Pennslyvania as early as
1775 where he is found on the tax list owning 130 acres, 2 cows
and 1 horse. Also listed is Christian Fox, probably Henry's
step-father. Henry left a will naming all of his children. At
this time his wife's name is unknown. It is possible he
married in York County which was where Christian Fox and
Magdalena Ernstberger lived after about 1765. Henry has been
found on the tax lists for the years 1775, 1776, 1778, 1779,
1780, 1781, 1782, 1783, and 1798. He died in 1806 and left
minor children. The 1809 tax list shows Jacob Arnstberger,
Henry Arnsberger and heirs of Henry Arnsberger. The 1810 tax
list for E. Pennsboro Twp., Cumberland Co shows Jacob
Arnstberger, Heirs of Henry Arnsberger, Henry Arnsberger and
widow Hansberger(not sure if this is right famiy). In the land
records for Cumberland Co., Christian Ansberger was grantor to
Jacob Ansberger(grantee) 2 Dec., 1812 in E. Pennsboro Twp.
Cumberland Co. It appears several of Henry's children went to
New York, namely Christopher, John and Frederick. Frederick is
found in Ontario Co., Genesed Twp in the 1820 index. Ontario
and Seneca are right next to each other. Jacob, Daniel and
Henry stayed in Cumberland Co., Pa. Numerous baptism records
have been found for children of these three men. That leaves
only Peter unaccounted for. At this time, very little is known

The following is from the Atlanta Argus, June 8, 1888, page 4,
column 3. Mrs. Barbara Hanley Takes her own Life.
[:BOLD] The news was brought to town last Saturday forenoon
that Mrs. Barbara Hanley, an aged lady, had ended her life by
drowning in a well on the farm of her son-in-law J.P.
Hieronymus, one mile west of town. The particulars of the
tragedy are as follows: Mrs. Hanley came here from Kansas last
fall to reside with her daughter, Mrs. J.P. Hieronymus. For
the past ten or twelve years she has been in very poor mental
and bodily health, and for the past eighteen months has been
constantly under the doctor's care. She was almost constantly
complaining that she believed she was losing her mind. In 1849
her father and husband went to California, where they both died
inside of two weeks of their arrival. This sad blow nearly
made her crazy, and she always contended after that her mind
was in a measure unsettled from its effects. On Thursday she
appeared to be in better health and spirits than usual, and ate
a hearty supper, but Friday she complained of being ill and was
low spirited. Saturday morning she arose as usual, ate a light
breakfast, put on her shawl and started out, as the members of
the family thought, for usual morning walk. Being absent
longer than usual Mrs. Hieronymus sent one of the younger girls
to look for her. A continued search was unsuccessful, but
coming back near a stock well she saw the old lady's shawl
beside it, and the fear at once seized her that her grandmother
had jumped in the well. She ran to the house and other members
of the family at once hurried to the spot, where they found
Mrs. Hanley dead in the water. There being no men folks at
home, Jack Brandt and Fred Huber, who were at work in a
neighboring field, were called and the body was taken from the
water and carried to the house. The news was brought to town
and coroner Birmingham notified, who came up on the afternoon
train. A jury was empaneled, who, after listening to the
evidence, returned a verdict of suicide. The act was evidently
premeditated, as she had taken off her bonnet and shawl before
throwing herself in the water. Her death is a sad blow to her
many friends. The funeral took place Sunday at the Ewing
church, Rev. Holton officiating. She was buried on 3 Jun 1888 in Mountjoy Cemetery, Logan Co Il.91 Her reference number is 183. Parents: John ARNSPIGER and Catherine FUNK.
