Caroline DICKERSON2 was born on 2 Jun 1815. She appeared in the census in 1880 in Jessamine Co. , Ky. as a widow. She died on 7 Aug 1893 in Jessamine Co, KY. She was buried in Bruner Cemetery, Harman Teater Farm, Little Hickman, Jessamine Co., Ky.. OBITUARY OF CAROLINE DICKERSON, as printed in Jessamine Journal
Little Hickman, Aug. 8, 1893,- At four o'clock yesterday morning, grim death again visited this community, and removed from our midst, Mrs.Caroline Bruner, aged 78 years. She had been a sufferer for months fromparalysis and her demise was not unexpected by her many relatives andfriends. Mrs. Bruner was the daughter of Mr. Jerry Dickerson, long sincepassed over the river, and widow of Greenberry Bruner, a once prominentfarmer and stock raiser at this place. The writer had known this moralold lady since he was old enough to know anyone, and can say he neverknew other than the sunny side of her beautiful nature. She was aChristian, and hospitable, and in her time was a star on the sea of thislife. I can never forget her kindness and the interest she took in me.She was the mother of ten children, eight of whom survive the loss of agood mother. Ed. L, Calvin, Roey, Tilford, Augustus, Erastus, Chester andTom N., are the names of her surviving sons, who deeply mourn that shewho ever ministered to their benefit, is no more.

Her funeral was preached today at 10 a.m., at the old homestead, byRev. Anthony, in the presence of a large crowd of relatives and sorrowingfriends., after which her remains were interred at the same place, besidethe loved ones who long ago preceded her on the journey from this life. Isincerely hope she is now peacefully resting in that home beyond theriver, free from pain and strife. To her sons, I extend the heart andhand of sympathy, hoping in the end they may again meet that precious, loving mother.

***************************************************************

Samuel Teater was Capt. of Fort Teter on the western frontier in Pa. and was Commandant of Fort Doddridge in 1782. He had confirmed militia service during the American Revolution from 1781 through 1783.

Fort Doddridge was a Blockhouse built on part of Samuel Teaters's property. The location was at what is now the corner of Seventh and Commerce St. in Wellsburg, WV. This blockhouse is mentioned in a list of forts and blockhouses in a northern West Virginia in a web site for Brook County, which at the time of the Revolutionary War contained what is today Wellsburg, WV. Fort Dooddridge is mentioned about half way down the second paragraph: http://168.216.219.18/brk-hist/forts.htm

Please Note: The site for Wellsburg, WV can be VERY slow and sometimes doesn't work. You may need to try later if you can't get the site to download in a reasonable length of time

He is mentioned in, The History of Augusta County Virginia, by J. Lewis Payton, as Captain of Fort Doddridge.

From 1780 to 1800 he was a captian in the Pennsylvania Militia Pennsylvania Battalion. On August 1, 1777 he married Barbara Roush, who was then in her eighteenth year, being born on December 17, 1755 (died November 17, 1812). Andrew Dillman returned to the battlefield the morning following his marriage. He was in the battles of Brandywine, Burgoyne, Morecure??? and Yorktown, serving until the surrender of Cornwallis.

In 1794 or 1795 he moved Kentucky by way of Pittsburgh, travelling down the Ohio river to Limestone (later called Maysville) Mason county, Kentucky in a flat boat. He settled in what is now Bracken county, Kentucky.

To Andrew Dillman Jr. and Barbara Roush Dillman the following children were born, first child died in infancy, Eve born in 1779, George born in March 1781, John born in March or November 1783, Susan May 29, 1785, Barbary born February 2, 1787, Frederick born November 14, 1788, Andrew 3rd born November 7, 1790, Julia born October 15, 1792, Catherine born December 22, 1792, Elizabeth born 18, 1795 , Conrad born October 25, 1798 and Samuel born in 1800.

About the time Andrew Dillman Jr. moved to Mason later Bracken county, Kentucky, The Rhorer, Bruners, Saudors and many other German Dunkard families moved from Maryland to Jessamine county, Kentucky which was about eighty miles south of Bracken county, Kentucky. The families had been acquainted with each other in Eastern communities.

The Hoover family, some of whom were preachers settled in Clermont county, Ohio across the Ohio River and twenty miles further down the river from the Dillmans. During the yearly camp meetings of the Dunkards, which were held in Clermont county, Ohio the Rhorers, Howsers and Bruners all undertaking the trip ???. The home of Andrew and Barbara Dillman was one of the stopping places on the way where the travellers put up during the night as they went to and from the camp meetings. The children of the various families intermingled and as a result nine of the sons and daughters of Andrew and Barbara Dillman married sons and daughters of Dunkard families of Jessamine county, Kentucky.

I have data relative to all the Dillman children, their marriages, deaths, etc., but have seen fit to include in this sketch only those relating to Barbara Dillman.

John Rhorer was born Feb 27, 1786 and died May 14, or 17, 1869, Barbary Dillman Rhorer was born February 2, 1787 and died February 1 or 18, 1858. They were married in 1808 and at first resided in Clermont county, Ohio where all of their children were born. Later they moved to Decatur county, Indiana where both died.

I have been unable to find any records dealing with the ancestry of John Rhorer. The name Rhorer appears frequently in the records of Pennyslvania. Johannes Rhorer and Johan Guttfried Rhorer arrived in Pennsylvania on the ship Robert and Oliver, sailing from Rotterdam, and landing in America on September 11, 17?? (Thirty Thousand Names of Immigrants, pp 118-119). Fredrich Rhorer arrived on October 9, 1727 from Rotterdam on the ship ???? (ibid p. 177). Friedrich Rhorer arrived on October 21, 1761, from Rotterdam in the ship Snow Squirrel (ibid p. 352); Friedrich, Jacob, and John Rhorer are mentioned in Pennsylvania Archives (Vol. 26 pp 496, 656, Vol 23, p 355 and vol 25, p 387, respectively. I do not know whether or not any of these early immigrants were ancestors of John Rhorer, but the frequent use of the name John, Johan, and Johannes makes it appear likely that such might have been the case.

To John Rhorer and Barbary Dillman Rhorer were born the following children, Martin born May 17, 1809, Mary ?? (Polly) born August 18, 1810, Elizabeth born March 3 or 7, 1812, died January 5, 1881 and married a Davis. Magdaline born September 3, 1813 died August 4, 1845, Andrew born Sept 26, 1815 died August 24, 1853, John born June 21, 1817, Salena born April 20, 1819, died February 13, 1859 and buried a babe, Susanna born March 1, 1821, died July 26, 1886 and married a Daly?? Jemima born January 2, 1825 died January 27, 1859 and married a Brinkly, Barbara Ann born January 22, 1829 and died February 25, 1879 and married a ??, ?? Peter born September 12, 1829 and died Sept 19, 1852 and Julia Ann born 17 June 18722, died May 31, 1891?? who married Lewis Mobley. To Lewis Mobley and Julia Ann Rhorer Moble, nine children were born.
