1834. Note signed by Stephen Arnspiger and Henry Rhorer. On
14 Sept 1836 a deed in Jessamine county (Book M, p 40) shows
Elizabeth Arnspiger, widow of Henry Arnspiger, selling to
Johnson Mitchell, 95+ acres on Jessamine creek. On 26 Mar 1838
an Indenture for sale of Henry Arnspiger land by John Arnspiger
mentioning all living Henry Arnspiger heirs at this time, i.e.
John, Stephen, David, Samuel, Mary Grow, wife of Christopher
Grow, Sarah, Catherine all over 21 years, also George and
Frances infants under 21 years. Samuel was named guardian.
By this time Elizabeth had died. He died before 31 Aug 1833 in Jessamine Co, KY.85,135 His reference number is 46. The dates for this individual are very questionable. He first
appears on a tax list in 1802. However, his first child was
born in Feb 1797 which means he had to have married in 1796.
Estimate his age at the time of his marriage as 18 years old.
Was he living with his father and that is why he is not on the
tax rolls??? Was he in another county?? Why does he not
appear until 1802??? Is he actually on the tax roll, just with
his name misspelled and therefore not found?? Did he stay in
Bedford county, PA, marry there and then come to Kentucky???
Is he in Fayette county, Kentucky which is what Jessamine
county Kentucky was in 1797??? The birth date for the first
child is sure level 4. If we estimate his age at 18 then he
was born in 1778. This is my hypothesis at this time.
8/11/99. He would have been 16 in 1795 when the family moved
to Kentucky. Perhaps he stayed behind with his uncle John
Bruner, who had power of attorney from Paul to sell his land in
Bedford. If he married in 1796, no record has been found in
Jessamine. Has anyone looked in Bedford?? Also perhaps

Eula's grandfather Henry Arnspiger was born in Kentucky,
married Mary Jane Fitzgerald, later moved to Illinois in Jersey
county. Grandfather Arnspiger took a claim in Kansas in 1874
and moved his family to Kansas, Sumner county. George W.
Arnspiger his son was shot accidently and buried on the family
farm. That plot was given to the community as a Cemetery.
When the family started to Kansas they arrived in Johnson
county near Kansas City when they heard of the grasshopper
invasion. they rented a place in Johnson county and spent the
winter there before coming on to Sumner county. Their cousins
A.B. MCCutcheons were living there. So the two families were

James Harvey Arnspiger came with his parents from Greene Co,
Illinois to Grayson Co, Texas in 1844. Grandfather David
Arnspiger was born in Jessamine Co, KY ca 1803 and moved to
Greene Co, Illinois c 1817 where J.h.. was born April 19, 1842.
Jane (Mollie) came with her parents to Texas in 1853 and
settled in Grayson co near Elmont in 1854. Mary Jane was born
April 4, 1847. Mollie's dad -- Thomas Benton Mccomb was born
in Roane Co, Tennessee, Nov 5 1820. He was ordained a minister
of the Missionary Baptist Church in 1848. After moving to
Grayson Co to Elmont, 3 miles west of Van Alstyne, he preached
at Weston, Farmington, Mantua and other places. He and Bro
Buckner of Buckners Orphans Home of Sherman, Texas organized
the First Baptist Church of Sherman under an oak tree on the
northwest corner of the square in 1869. Their pictures are in
the corner stones of the First Baptist Church.
J.H.. and Mollie were both reared in the Elmont community and
married there Jan 3, 1866. Mollie's dad went to Jefferson each
spring when he knew the shipments had arrived there. It took 3
weeks to go and 3 weeks to return. On one of these trips, he
bought 10 yards of white jackonette material for Mollie's
wedding dress. People for miles around were invited to come
and stay overnight for the wedding. Much elaborate
preparations were made and an abundance of food was prepared.
J.H. and Mollie built a house of logs cut by J.H.. and hauled
25 miles by 5 yoke of oxen. Brick for the chimney was brought
from Pilot Point.
J.h.. changed the date of his birth in order to enlist in 1863
in the Confederate Army in the war between the states. He was
in Baker's Co, Hardeman's Regiment.

JAMES HARVEY ARNSPIGER, eldest of family of four living
children, the others William Jasper, Powers, and his sister,
Texana. He ws born in Greene co, Ill, 19 April 1842. He was
three years old when his father moved to Texas. He enlisted in
1863 in Confederate army as member of Company A, Hardeman's
regiment, and served in Indian Territory and Arkansas,
returning at the close of the war to Grayson co. On January 3,
1866, he married Mary Jan McCOMB, daughter of Rev. Thomas
Benton McComb, and in October following, he settled on tract in
vicinity of Elmont, near Van Alstyne, on 133 1/2 acres, 90 of
which are in cultivation... Has comfortable house, good
out-buildings, fruit trees, live stock, etc. Ten living
children: Albert Eula, George Sydney, Thomas Evans, William
David, James Woodson, Lizzie Pearl, Essie Jane, John, Charles
Harvey, Cassie Anna and Sallie Grace. Mr. Arnspiger is active
in civic affairs, a Democrat..."

"The marriage of James Harvey ARNSPIGER and Mary Jane McCOMB
was the first social event of Grayson county, Texas of any
great importance, according to another account, and the entire
citizenry of the county was invited to attend, and very nearly
all came for the wedding, some arriving a week or ten days
beforehand, bringing their bedding, food, etc., and all the
children. Much singing, dncing and story telling around camp
fires in the evenings, etc.
Excerpt from a book entitled "Biographical Souvenir of State of

"JAMES HARVEY ARNSPIGER, farmer of Grayson County, although not
born in Texas, is nevertheless a thorough Texan, having been
reared in the State from infancy. His parents moved to Texas
in the fall of 1844 and settled Grayson county, near the Collin
county line, not far from Van Alstyne.... Among earliest
settlers - only one settler west of them...

Jackson and a son-in-law Abraham Houser started to California
during the gold rush of 1849. Abraham Houser died before they
reached California and Eula's great grandfather John Arnspiger
died soon after crossing the California line. Place of burial
unknown. Andrew reached California and wrote back many
letters. He returned to Kansa and is buried in Sumner county."
