Hamlin, published in "Kentucky Ancestors", Vol. 4, No. 6,p. 25, July 1969, says it seems likely that actions by Anthony Haden, his grandson (Captain), have been ascribed erroneously to Anthony (TheElder) Haden of Virginia; "The Hayden Family", Vol. II, NO. 3, p. 143,April 1930, William Rudder wrote that THOMAS and JAMES were sons whowere born before ANTHONY and MARGARET came to America; These 2 sonsspelled their names HAYDON and each named a son William??? JOUT KY02-Family Bible of Captain Jack Jouett and Haden of Virginiaand Kentucky, contributed by Charles Hughes Hamlin, P. O. Box 3525,Richmond, Virginia 23234; This Bible record of births, marriages anddeaths was generously contributed by Mrs. W. Burford Davis, 2 WoodhillRoad, Louisville, Kentucky 40207. Anthony "The Elder", born August 26,1694 by the Bible record, his son, John, born 10 May 1723 and hisgrandson, Anthony, born 26 March 1746, as mentioned in the citedBible. The first authentic records of importance found in Virginiarelative to Anthony Haden "The Elder" commence in Goochland County,16th November 1742 which is an indenture in which Anthony Haden isspecifically stated therein to be "of King William County" and inwhich he purchases 400 acres of land on Great Byrd Creek "lying partlyin Goochland and partly in Hanover." By the Bible record, Anthony isabout 48 years of age at this time. Between the above date of 1742 and1745, Anthony Haden makes several other purchases of variousquantities of land and in all of which deeds he is stated to be "ofKing William County" and all of his purchases are "on Great ByrdCreek". In the period 1747 to 1761 Anthony Haden, "of Hanover County"makes deeds of gift to his various children of his lands in Goochlandcounty, and from these records (and others) we have proof of at least8 children whose names are as follows: 1. John, 2. Joseph, 3.William, 4. Elizabeth Rea, 5. Rachel, wife of James Johnson, 6.Zachariah, 7. Ann, wife of Thomas Blakey, 8. Ruth, wife of JacobFarris. Other historians of the Haden family state that Anthony Haden married Margaret Douglas, but do not state where or when and offer nocitation to authority as proof. We do note, however, that at GoochlandCounty November Court 1745, Anthony Haden acknowledged in open Court adeed of sale of land to John Watson, Jr. and Margaret, wife of AnthonyHaden, relinquished her right of dower. By the latter part of 1761 he had given away most of his land and slave holdings as gifts to hischildren, but he still retained 200 acres of land on which he lived asis revealed by a Hanover County Tithable list dated in 1763. It is my personal (Charles Hamlin) opinion that he must have died shortly after this year or thereabouts. He would have reached the age of 70 years in1764.

Some researchers say Anthony Haden was born St. Michael's, Norwich, Norfolk County, England.
