Eleanor (Nellie) HUNTER1,22 was born about 1791. Her reference number is 228 .1a. Eleaner “Nelly” Hunter was the daughter of Jacob Hunter, Jr. Jacob Hunter, Jr. is listed in the first census of Kentucky in Fayette Co., Ky, 2-26-1790. He is also listed in Early Settlers of Fort Boonesborough by H. Thomas Tudor, page 15. Also on the French Tipton Papers of Settlers of Boonesboro. He is noted as having fought in the Battle of Blue Licks, August 19th, 1782 with Daniel Boone and filed for reimbursement for loses during that battle for a black mare appraised at L30 and one saddle valued at L2. There are many legal documents for Jacob Hunter, Jr. and his father, Jacob, Sr. and his siblings in Fayette and Jessamine Counties, Ky. Jacob Hunter, Jr. and his two brothers, John and Samuel first came to Ky in 1778. They stopped in Boonesborough in 1778 and were employed by Elias Hite in surveying the lands of Kentucky. Jacob is listed in deed books and tax lists for Fayette Co as early as 1782. On the 8-29-1800 tax list, he is in Jessamine Co. It is important to note here that Jessamine Co was formed from Fayette Co on 19 December 1798. The 1810 census finds him in Jessamine Co., but by 1820 he is in Gallatin Co. By 1830 Jacob was in Owen Co. with 2 sons, his father, 3 daughters, Nancy, Mary and Sophy and his wife, Elizabeth Skiles. Samuel and Nelly were married in 1811 in Jessamine Co., KY. and were also in Owen Co. in 1830. The 1850 census of Owen Co has Jacob 93, wife, Elizabeth 50 and the following children; Angus 22, Catharine 18, Sally 16, Martin 12, Nancy 8, Jesse 6, and Mildred 4. This would mean he fathered a child at the age of 89, or else he they were housing grandchildren or, as was common in those times, they could have been children of other family members, nieces or nephews. Jacob built the first mill in Owen Co. He was very well to do for the times. Upon his death, he left Eleaner Renfree, late Eleaner Hunter, 163 acres in Owen Co. In 1857 Ellenor Renfo deeded the 163 acres to her son, Joseph M. Renfro with the consideration that he would “hereby covenant to support her in a comfortable way during her life…”

Notes for ELLEN RENFRO:
Sue,
I'm in Lone Jack, Missouri. Lone Jack is about 30 miles south east of Kansas City. It's a
real small "don't blink or you'll miss it" town, but we love it here. Matter of fact unless you were looking for the sign on the highway, you'd never know you were going through Lone Jack. And this area is full of Civil War history, what with having the bloodiest battle on Missouri soil right here, during which most of the town was burned and this being a hotbed during the Kansas/Missouri border war. Quantrell was fond of hiding in the Sni Hills which is just about 3 or 4 miles NW of Lone Jack. I'm in high heaven being surrounded by all this history.

My husband was born and bred in Owen County, KY, his mother is a Stivers, his grandmother is a Hawkins. Most of his family is still in the area also. Who is your Owen County family?

Alinda
