Fred Welch Johns, 83, of Beaumont Avenue in Harrodsburg, formerly ofNicholasville, died unexpectedly Sept. 8 at the Blue Grass CommunityHospital in Versailles. He was a native of Jessamine County, born onSept. 4, 1920, to the late Fred Sr. and Carrie Jane Cobb Johns. After 50years, Mr. Johns retired from the home improvement industry, having beenthe owner of Peerless Aluminum. He had been a master carpenter duringthat time. A dedicated Christian, he attended the Opera House Tabernaclein Harrodsburg. He enjoyed being with his family, playing the harmonicaand singing. He served in the Army during World War II, and was injuredin the war and received several medals. Survivors include his wife of57 years, Ruth S. Reynolds Johns; five children, Karen Johns Lee ofNicholasville, Catherine "Kitty" Thompson of Harrodsburg, Eva Faye Marseeand her husband, Dana, of Nicholasville, Fredda Shannon Jacobs and herhusband, Ronald, of Harrodsburg, and Lindsay Barton Johns and his wife,Gina, of Nicholasville; 11 grandchildren, Shawn Lester, Joseph Marsee,Jaisa Miracle, Erinn Thompson, Audrey Peel, Will Daugherty, Adam Watts,Matthew Lee, Christopher Lee, Lindsay Johns and Whitney Johns; 11great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in deathby a son, Shannon Johns, and three brothers, Jean C. Johns, Evanda Clay"Sharkey" Johns and Eldon Blackstone Johns.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, at Hager & CundiffFuneral Home on Oak Street in Nicholasville with the Rev. Michael Conoverofficiating. Burial will follow in Cobb Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, and honorary pallbearers will be MikeJohns, David Johns, Connie Johns, Malcom Miracle, Jerome Peel and ThadLester.
