James MILLER1 was born on 5 May 1817 in HArrison Co., Ky. JAMES MILLER, farmer and stock-raiser; P. 0. Paris; born May 5, 1817, in
Harrison County, this State, son of Hugh, whose father was likewise
named Hugh Miller, who was a native of Virginia, and emigrated to this
State when the country was new and unsettled, locating in Harrison
County, and was one of the early Judges in that county. Hugh, his son,
was born Nov. 12, 1774. In 1807, April 6, he married Mary Ewalt, who was
born Aug. 28, 1785, in Bourbon County, daughter of Henry Ewalt, one of
the early settlers in this County. To Hugh Miller, Jr., were born seven
children; of this number Hugh was the elder, born 1808; Henry, 1809;
William H., 1812; Polly, 1814; James, 1817; Elizabeth, 1819; Margaret
J., 1822. The sons were never married, except James, our subject; he was
left fatherless at an early age; his father was killed by a horse. James
was raised by his mother. Jan. 12,1841, he married ANNIE F. BOYD, a
native of Harrison County, daughter of JOSEPH and ALICE (WITHERS)
BOYD; he was a son of JOHN BOYD and KATIE MONTGOMERY.

DR. John C. MILLER, farmer and physician, is the third son of Merriman F.
and Celia MILLER, and was born on his father's farm, February 10, 1841.
His father was born August 30, 1804; his mother September 18, 1806;
and died May 10, 1882. His grandfather, Francis MILLER, was born at
Culpeper C.H., Va., in 1748, settled in the limits of Jessamine in 1790,
and died October 26, 1839. His grandmother was Elizabeth Freeman, born in
1759, died April 5, 1845. In 1862 John C. MILLER commenced reading
medicine under Dr. S. D. Welch. In 1864 he graduated at the Ohio Medical
College. In 1865 he attended the Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New
York, where he took the ad eundem degree, and a special course in
auscultation, percussion and diseases of the heart and lungs under Prof.
Austin Flint, Sr., the best diagnostician and medical writer in the world.
He has practiced in Jessamine County ever since 1864 with the exception of
four years in Madison County, from 1873 to 1877. Dr. MILLER was very
successful in the medical profession, but is now an extensive farmer and
breeder of trotters, cultivating one of the best improved farms in
Jessamine County. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
He was married to Miss Nannie Rice of Madison County, February 25,1868.
She was born July 11, 1843, and died April 15, 1885. The names of hischildren
are Rice, Hugh, Lizzie and Meade.

MCKENNEY and Nancy of Nicholasville;four grandchildren, Beverly GILES, Cheryl CLARK, Janice HAGER and GregoryMCKENNEY; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; asister, Pansy FAIN; and a brother, Ray MILLER.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Betts and West FuneralHome with the Rev. Bobby BECKNELL officiating. Burial followed in BlueGrass Memorial Gardens. Family members served as bearers.
