A. J. II NUNES17,45 died in Philadelphia, Pa. I was looking at the NUNES Surname Board on Ancestry.com and found anAndre T. Nunes and what he had written about all ALL NUNES FAMILIES AREJEWISH ANCESTRY. MAY GOD BE WITH YOU ALWAYS....

The history he wrote about the NUNES escaping from Jerusaleum was veryinteresting. I have always said I want to get my families back to theBible....

Joseph A. Nunes was friends with the SHREVE family in Louisville, KY andmarried Juliette Shreve. The Shreves intertained Jenny Lind when shetoured America with P.T. Barnum, stopping off in Louisville. The Shrevewas originally SHERIFF supposedly from Greece or Turkey.

So now I need to move forward 300 years to 1791 when A.J. Nunes marriedand at least two sons and a daughter were born. Henry Nunes and HannahHelen Nunes were never married. They were living with Joseph A. Nunes inNew York in early 1900. I thought they might have lived in Brooklyn onRugby Rd. That is where Sue Nunes and Belle Shreve Nunes Warden wereliving when Belle married George Warden abt. 1897. Parents: Abram I. NUNES Dr..

Spouse: Hester BENNAM. Children were: Joseph A. NUNEZ, Henry NUNEZ.

Henry NUNEZ.17 Parents: A. J. II NUNES and Hester BENNAM.

Joseph A. NUNEZ17,45 was born in 1818 in Philadelphia, Pa. He died in Apr 1904 in New York, NY. He was buried in Ny. Joseph A. Nunes (sometimes and probably correctly spelled "Nunez") was aperipatetic attorney, life insurance agent, manager of an opera house, playwright, and author, is represented among Beadle authors by a singletale, published in three different editions. Very little is known abouthim. He first appears in Philadelphia, where he was admitted to the barJanuary 9, 1841. In 1848 appeared his "Aristocracy; or, Life among theUpper Ten," published by Peterson, of Philadelphia; and he had a poem inthe Dollar Newspaper, Vol. VIII, July 10, 1850. He was probably in thatcity until 1857 or early 1858, for although the city directory stillgives him in 1859, he was already in California in 1858 according toAllibone. His "Fast Folk; or, Early Days in California" was played inthe American Theatre in San Francisco, in July, 1858, but was apparentlynot published until 1861, in Philadelphia. He was an attorney in SanFrancisco and listd in 1860 , but only that year. From 1861 to1865 isthe unknown. He may have joined with the Civil War; (he was payrollclerk in Louisville, Kentucky). He appears as a lawyer with an office inthe same address as Henry Nunes (Stoever & Nunes, Commission andForwarding Merchants). In 1872 he appears in the same directory asGeneral Agent, Chicago Life Insurance Co. Directories for 1873 to 1880were not seen, but in 1881 he was listed as a lawyer, and here for thefirst time, his name was spelled "Nunez". In 1880, he was given in theCincinnati, Ohio Directory as lessee and manager of Pike's Opera House, with his residence in Louisville. Some time between 1882 and 1887 heleft Louisville, for he appears in the New York City Directory for thefirst time in 1887-88. as Joseph A. Nunez, lawyer. He appeared for thelast time in the directory for 1901-1902. In 1907, Juliette Ann ShreveNunez, widow of Joseph A. Nunez, appears and remains until 1915-16. Acertain Hannah Helen Nunez, apparently a relative appeared at the sameaddress as Joseph for the years 1890-91 to 1896-97. Her "Book of Poetry"was published in Philadelphia in 1873. In 1898-99, also living withJoseph Nunez, was Henry Nunes, a lawyer, and he remains in the directoryuntil 1901-1902.

Joseph lived at the home of J.M.V. Shreve in the 1870's. Juliette'sbrother James also boarded there. (1875 Louisville Directory) A partnerin Edwards, Shreve and Co., wholesale wine and liquors.

One time a man poked fun at Joseph and Joseph took his cane and shook itat the man. Joseph was 24 yrs. older than Juliette Shreve.
