On 14 Jun 1735 WilliamBeckham purchased land in Orange Co, VA on theSouth Side of the River Rappidanne. The following Deed is recorded inDeed Book I, Orange Co, VA, 14 Jun 1735:

". . . Alexander Spotswood grants to William Beckham for the naturallives of his son, Simon and his wife, Phyllis, the longest liver of them. . . 100 acres in the Parish of St Mark, County of Orange, on the southside of the River Rapidanne, part of a tract of 40,000 acres granted toSpotswood and called the Spotswood Tract . . . yearly rent for the firstfour years to be one ear of Indian corn due on 25 Dec each year, andafter . . 600 lbs weight of good sound merchantable tobacco clear ofground leaves and trash and delivering the same to some convenientlanding in the County of Spotsylvania, due first 25 Dec 1739. If Williamin arrears more than 60 days, Spotswood can enter the premises and takegoods and chattles to satisfy the debt . . . within four years William istoplant 300 fruit trees of which at least one third to good apple treesenclosedby a sufficient fence. He shall build and keep in good repairhouses and buildings . . and everything to be yielded up to Spotswoodwhen the time comes. If Simon and Phyllis are still alive in 1775Spotswood is willing to make the same deal with them or any of William'sassigns . . whenever required William will assit with one laboring had tobuild water dam or race for any grist mill Spotswood may erect, andassist in repairing the same. Spotswood and his servants or workmen mayenter the premises at all times, houses and orchards excepted, to dig,drain or search for any mines of stone, iron, lead or copper andy havefreeingress, egress and regress for carrying same away in carts,carriages, wagons, horses or oxen. Spotswood to have free access to landat any time, making recompense to William for damage . . . "

Henry Beckham was living in Orange Co. VA where he was listed on the1752 and 1755 tithe list with one tithe, which may not be accurate sincein 1771 he and James Beckham were hauled in court for concealing onetithable each.
Henry Beckham is shown in various lawsuits from 1758 to 1768. In1771 he and his wife Elizabeth deeded their farm to James Beckham. HenryBeckham received a grant on 1 SEP 1783 for 244 acres on the LittleKanawha River Botetourt Co. VA

VA onthe list of Benjamin Grymes showing 7 white souls; and on the list ofCatlett Conway showing 7white souls, 1 dwelling and three otherdwellings; and on the 1787 Tax list ofOrange Co.
