DR. THOMAS PEEL was born October 22, 1835, and is the fifth son of Thomas and Margaret (Sparks) Peel, both born in Fayette County, near Lexington. Thomas Peel was a farmer, and died in Jessamine County in his seventy-seventh year. Mrs. Margaret Peel is still living in her ninetieth year. The Doctor's grandfather, Samuel Peel, was born in Virginia, but came to Fayette County, Ky., in an early day. The Doctor was born and reared on a farm one mile and a half south of Nicholasville, Jessamine County, and was educated at the common schools. He remained on the farm until 1856, when he opened a general store at what is now known as Peel's Branch, six miles south of Nicholasville on the Paint Lick road. He carried on business at Peel's Branch and at Sulphur Well, part of the time at one place and part at another, until 1871, and also kept hotel from 1856 until 1871. However, he concluded to make a physician of himself, and commenced to read medicine under Dr. John C. Miller, of Jessamine County in 1867. In 1870 he attended the Ohio Medical College at Cincinnati, Ohio. He was then examined by the Kentucky State Board of Health, and received a certificate authorizing him to practice medicine in Kentucky. He has since turned his attention to his profession in connection with farming 325 acres of good land five miles south of Nicholasville, and has a fine practice. April 6, 1857, he was united in marriage with Miss Armedia, daughter of Nathan and Atha (Fair) Hunter, both natives of Jessamine County, and both deceased. Eleven children have blessed this union, none of whom are living: Mary A., married to Louis Peel; Sallie, married to Samuel Hill; Buanna, married to D. F. Stafford; Atha; Alice, married to Franklin Hudson; Wilmot; Samuel J.; Nathan H. and Tommie. Mr. and Mrs. Peel are members of the Christian Church, and Mr. Peel is a Master Mason.
