John is found on the land records of Virginia, South Carolina and Kentucky. They lived in Henry Co and Franklin Co.

John was a private in the Infantry and later in the Calvary in the company of Capt. Hairston of the Regiment commanded by Col. Shelby in Virginia Militia for 11 months from 1777. He was a drummer. John served from April 1, 1776 to October 6,1776 under Cap. Perteste and Lt. Samual Harston in a mounted company of horseman providing his own horse, gun and equipment. He went from Henry Co., VA where he was living to NC, crossing the Blue Ridge Mountains to Ft. Henry on April 1, 1778. He served under Capt. Joseph Renfro and Lt. David Hedane as a private for at least six months arriving at Botetourt Court House. He took care of the sick and wounded under the direction of Col. Morgan at the Battle of Cowpans. After three days, he joined General Green at Guilford, he was discharged by Col. Lyon.

#2643: Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Barren County. SCHUYLER M. RENFRO, the third of the eight sons and four daughters of Joseph and Sarah (Ralston) Renfro, was born December 4, 1824, in the south part of Barren County. Joseph Renfro was born in North Carolina, June 1, 1801, and was brought to Kentucky when but one year old; he was a farmer and a son of John and Esther (Peak) Renfro, both natives of Virginia. John Renfro was of Scotch-Irish descent and a soldier in the Revolution. In an early day he set out for Kentucky, stopping at North Carolina on his way; then continued his journey through the wilderness to Barren County, and settled on Skagg's Creek; there he purchased and improved a farm and became the owner of a few slaves. Mrs. Sarah Renfro was born and reared in Barren County, a daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Wallace) Ralston, who were among the early settlers of Barren County, and were of Irish descent. Her father was an extensive farmer and slave owner. Schuyler M. Renfro was reared on a farm. At the age of nineteen he commenced teaching, which he followed for about twelve years, and was ranked among the best of that profession. He was united in marriage, January, 1853, with Sarah Peden, of Barren County, a daughter of Thompson and Sarah (Wilkinson) Peden. One child was born to their union - Alice Smith, who died in 1882; her mother died in 1855. Mr. Renfro's second marriage took place December 25, 1856, with Susan B. Young, daughter of John and Mary (Bowling) Young; she died April 8, 1875, a member of the Christian Church, and the mother of three children: Schuyler E., G. Y. and Mary Y. In August, 1880, Mr. Renfro married Mary Wilkinson, a daughter of Lewis and Sarah (McPherson) Wilkinson. After his first marriage Mr. Renfro continued teaching for several years; then resided on Skagg's Creek for four years in mercantile business; then moved to Roseville, where for three years he was engaged in the mercantile business. He then returned to the farm, where he was successfully engaged until 1875. He then located at Glasgow Junction, where he has since been successfully engaged in the goods business. He and wife are members of the Christian Church; in politics he is a Democrat, but cast his first presidential vote for Gen. Scott.


#2645: Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Barren County. THOMAS RENFRO, sixth child of Joseph and Sarah (Ralston) Renfro, was born November 21, 1829, in Barren County, Ky. Joseph was a son of John and Esther (Peak) Renfro, who were married in 1781 and reared a family of six sons. John died in April, 1846, and his widow in May, 1851. Thomas Renfro was reared on a farm; at twenty-one he commenced life for himself, and has since followed agricultural pursuits. September 25, 1851, he married Ann P. Davasher, of Barren County, who bore him one child, William (deceased). Mrs. Renfro was a daughter of Alexander and Catherine (Lewis) Davasher, and died in August, 1868, a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Renfro's second marriage took place November 4, 1869, with Sarah E. Morehead, of Allen County, Ky., and to their union six children wre born: Edmond L., Thomas B., George M., Bertha, Letha and Eula. Mrs. Renfro is a daughter of Edmond and Matilda E. (Fishback) Morehead, who were born and reared in Allen County, Ky. Edmond Morehead was a farmer and died in 1864, aged forty-seven years; he was a son of John and Basheba (Stark) Morehead, both of Virginia, and of English origin. After his first marriage Mr. Renfro located near Barren River; in 1870 he located on 107 acres where he now resides near Glasgow Junction, and now owns 120 acres, highly cultivated and improved with fine cottage, out-buildings; orchard, etc. In politics he is a Democrat but cast his first vote for Gen. Scott. He and his wife are members of the Baptist Church. Parents: William RENFRO and Chloe TAYLOR.
