Arnspiger Claimed By Death. Mrs. Laura Childs Steves
Arnspiger, 79, of the Maysville road, widow of George William
Arnspiger, died at 5:03 o'clock yesterday morning at Good
Samaritan Hospital. Mrs. Arnspiger Saturday was admitted to
the hospital and underwent an emergency appendectomy.

A native of Fayette county, she was the daughter of the late
Dr. J. B. and Mattie Elbert Steves. Mrs. Arnspiger had been a
resident of this community her entire life. She received her
education in Fayette county schools and was a member of the
Broadway Christian church.

She is survived by three sons, William Steves Arnspiger,
Indianapolis; Eugene N. Arnspiger, Chicago, and Richard
Arnspiger, Lexington; a grandson, Eugene S. Arnspiger, Chicago;
a brother J. B. Steves, Lexington; and three nieces, Miss Laura
Kathryn Johnston, Lexington; Mrs. Roy Pruitt, Cincinnati, and
Mrs. Martha Davis, Daytona Beach, Fla.

The body was removed to the W.R. Milward mortuary chapel, where
services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, the
Rev. William E. Sweeney, pastor of the Broadway Christian
church, officating, assisted by the Rev. Mark Collis, pastor
emeritus of the church. Interment will take place in the
Lexington cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Leslie N. Clugston, Roy Pruitt, A.J.
Griffee, Frank C. Bell, Dr. T. Jefferson Overstreet and John L.

"Stewart Clan Magazine", December 1938, p.22: John Stewart married about 1760 Susanna Bledsoe, a widow, daughter of Frederick Fulkerson,and settled in Surry county. He probably gave the name to Stewart Creek, west of Mount Airy. John and his wife Susanna sold 19 March 1764, to William Robertson of Antrim parish, Halifax County, Virginia,"for divers causes and considerations but more especially for" 60pounds, current money of Virginia, 300 acres, part of a greater quantity granted 9 May 1757 to Frederick Fulkerson, on the east side of the middle fork of the Ararat river: witnesses to a receipt attached to this deed were Jacob Lash, esq., and David Stewart. John and Susanna sold 26 October 1765, to Henry "Medadine" 200 acres, part of 500 granted 9 May 1757, by John Earl Granville to Frederick Fulkerson and conveyed by said Fulkerson to the said Susanna Stewartin her widowhood under the name of Susanna Bledsoe. John obtained agrant 18 April 1771, of 300 acres on a large branch of Stony Fork of Mallard Creek, in Mecklenburg County, and he and Susannah sold this tract 1 March 1775, to William Alexander. About this time they seem to have moved to Tennessee, settling on a branch of the Holston River.Susanna had a son, "Loring" Bledsoe, who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War with his half-brothers, David and William Stewart. Parents: Samuel STEWART and Lydia (Liddy) HARRISON.

John Alexander STEWART1 was born about 1750. He died about 1835 in Knox Co., KY. Alexander Stewart was born circa 1755, presumably in Scotland but possibly in Ireland. He was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, fighting in the Second Virginia State Regiment. Around 1798 he moved to Knox County, Kentucky, where in 1801 he became the county's first Justice of the Peace. He died there in 1835.

Knox County Court April Term 1835

The last and Testament [sic] of Alexander Stewart dec'd. was
produced in Court by the Executor there in named, and proven by the
oath of Wade N. Woodson and Anderson Stewart subscribing witnesses
there to, to be the act and deed of the said Alexander Stewart,
where upon the said will with the proof was ordered of record to
wit,


"In the name of God amen: I Alexander Stewart of the County of Knox,
and the state of Kentucky, being weak and feeble of body, but
being apprehensive that the time of my departure is near at hand,
but being of sound and disposing mind + memory, do make this my last
will and testament in manner & form following (hereby revoking all
other wills by me heretofore made, viz,

1st. That my body be interred in a plain decent manner, and the
expenses there of paid out of my Estate.

2nd. That all my just debts be paid.

3rd. I give and bequeath to my wife Catharine Stewart during her
natural life, my negro woman Priscilla, and twelve dollar in cash,
one feather bed and furniture, and such cooking utensils as she may
stand in need of; and one cow and calf.

4th. I give unto my daughter Peggy Edwards my negro girl Sally and
her in evolue (underlined) provided she pay to my Executor here
after mentioned the sum of fifty dollar within twelve months after
my decease, which may be discharged in property valued at cash
price, and if she refuse to pay the fifty dollar, then I direct that
the said negro shall be taken from her, and the sum of two hundred
dollar paid her in lieu of the said negro; also I give unto my said
daughter one big kettle which she now has.

5th. I give unto my daughter Ann Alsup the sum of one hundred and
fifty dollars in cash or in property valued at cash price.

6th. I give unto my Daughter Euphemia Culton my negro girl Pamela,
provided she pay my Executor the sum of twenty dollar within twelve
months from my decease, which may be discharged in property valued
at cash - and should she refuse to do so, that the said negro be taken
from her, and the sum of two hundred dollar be paid to her in lieu
of the said negro. I also give unto my said daughter a large kettle
which she now has possession of.

7th. I give unto my daughter Polly Wyatt fifty two dollar and a
half, which with thirty two and a half dollar I charge him for a
[mare?] he got from me, forty dollar in Cash I lent him, and twenty
five dollars paid him by my son Isaac Stewart make the sum of one
hundred fifty dollar.

8th. I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Walker one dollar, having
heretofore given her two hundred dollar in the price of land sold to
her husband.

9th. I give unto my son William Stewart five dollar, having
heretofore given him two hundred dollars.

10th. My Will and desire is that my negro woman *Priscilla
[asterisk present in court copy] remain with my son Isaac until she
is forty five years old, and that she then be free, and that her
three children, viz. Mary, Jane + Ann be valued; and that the
amount of their valuation added to the residue of whatever estate I
possess at my death, not heretofore disposed of shall be equally
divided between all my children. But that my son Isaac if he thinks
proper to do so may keep the said children at their valuation as his
own property on his paying my other children their respective
proportion of such valuation and residue as aforesaid.

Lastly - I appoint my son Isaac Stewart Executor of this my last will
and testament. In testimony where of I have hereunto set my hand and
offered my soul the 22nd day of January 1835.
