Teater Stables Opens Posted January 18, 2001 Martin Teater announced the opening of Teater Stables at his family's farm in Nicholasville, Ky. Opened January 1, Teater Stables is a public training facility specializing in young horses, amateurs and juveniles, and sales. Owner/trainer Martin Teater will be assisted by Alberto Torres. The Teater name has long been synonymous with championship caliber horses. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Earl Teater, and his father, Ed Teater, Martin has already started and shown some top horses including Principal, Renowned SC, and My Bugatti Royale. Teater enjoyed great success while at Mystery Hill Stables and most recently at Callaway Hills where he showed the grand five-gaited stallion Callaway's Wish Me Will. "I have been fortunate to have been around many nice horses in my past jobs and now look forward to my own stable," said Teater. "We have a good group of young horses including a coming three-year-old by Periaptor out of the great show mare Sue Elegant and a coming three-year-old half brother to Renowned who is gaited. "I will also continue my long standing association with TSE Tattersalls," added Teater. ________________________________________ Ed Teater Inducted Into UPHA Tom Moore Hall Of Fame Posted January 25, 2001 The following speech was read by Walt Robertson Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 during the UPHA Convention at the Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke, Va. To be eligible for induction to the UPHA Hall of Fame, a person must have derived his or her livelihood from the profression of training show horses or ponies. He or she must have reached their success not only through the champion horses or ponies they have developed and shown, but must possess the respect of their peers through the professional conduct they have maintained throughout their careers. He or she must have willingly given of themselves the knowledge which they have acquired over the years in efforts to help their fellow professionals and further the success of the show industry and the training profession. Induction into the UPHA Hall of Fame means this person has earned the highest esteem of their peers. To date, there hvae been 56 horsemen and horsewomen inducted into the UPHA Hall of Fame. The list reads like "Who's Who" - names like Garland Bradshaw, Lee Roby, Art Simmons, my father, Jim B. Robertson, Tom Moore, Donna More, DOn Harris, to name a few. Also there are several families like Max, Rex, and Shirley Parkinson, Welch and Carroll Greenwell, Helen, Charles and Redd Crabtree, and of course Lloyd and Earl Teater and tonight a third Teater joins this prestigious group, Ed Teater. According to the criteria mentioned earlier, Ed is certainly worthy of induction to the UPHA Hall of Fame. Over the past 45 years Ed has had tremendous success as a trainer, as a breeder, and has presided over the most successful auction market the Saddlebred industry has ever witnessed. He received his initial training as an assistant to his well-known father, Earl Teater. Ed has been manager/trainer at Rock Creek Riding Club in Louisville, Ky.; Dodge Stables, Lexington, Ky.; North Ridge Farm, Wayzata, Minn.; and his own Teater Stables in Nicholasville, Ky. Ed Teater won the three and five-gaited World Grand Championships on CH Sea Of Secrets and CH Belle Elegant respectively. Other top show horses shown by him or his students include CH Local Talent, CH Lovers Sensation, CH Sultan's Supremacy, CH Too Much, CH Denmark's Spitfire, CH Northern Mystic, CH Sue Elegant, Principal, Tijuana Topaz, and many others. Ed was past Chairman of Chapter 3 and 4 of the United Professional Horsemen's Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the American Saddle Horse Association from 1968 through 1987 and from 1989 through 1997 and served as Vice-President of the ASHA from 1992 through 1997. He has judged most major AHSA shows and was a member of the AHSA's Saddlebred Rules Committee. Ed currently serves on the Advisory Committee to the World Championship Horse Show and was inducted to its Hall of Fame in 1997. I think that Ed Teater's most significant achievement in our industry and his most important contribution to our industry is the transformation of Tattersalls into what it is and represents today. Fifteen years ago Ed and his brother, Lou, established Teater Saddlebred Enterprises, Inc., in order to conduct three annual auctions at Tattersalls. Lou passed away several years ago and Ed is now owner and president of the operation today. At the time the Teaters entered the auction business, quality horses selling at auction were few and far between barring infrequent dispersals. Through hard work, horsemanship, integrity, and his wife Suzie's organizational skills, Ed Teater has done whatever it takes, bar hiring a real auctioneer, to transform Tattersalls into a legitimate, well-respected auction market for all caliber of horses on which the Saddlebred industry has come to rely. Tattersalls has given our product liquidity and a reliable market without which it is not a product at all. Ed is the father to Dee, whom we all see around the horse shows with Dee Teater Hats, Whitney, UPHA member and top horseman, Martin, and Ryan, who will be going off to college in the fall. I hear he's going to stay fairly close to home. He's either going to Texas or Colorado. Please join the UPHA and his wonderful wife, Suzie, in inducting Edward M. Teater into the United Professional Horsemen's Association Hall of Fame. ________________________________________________________ Edward M. Teater, PresidentEd Teater has been associated with American Saddlebreds his entire life. His father, legendary horseman Earl Teater, developed and showed CHWing Commander and managed Dodge Stables and its "mother ship" Castleton Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Ed has been manager/trainer of Rock Creek Riding Club, Louisville, Kentucky; Dodge Stables, North Ridge Farm, Wayzata, Minnesota and Teater Stables, Nicholasville, Kentucky. Teater has won Three and Five-Gaited World's Grand Champion Titles with CHSea Of Secrets and CHBelle Elegant, respectively. Other well-known horses presented by him and/or his students include CHLocal Talent, CHLover's Sensation, CHSultan's Supremacy, CHToo Much, CHDenmark's Spitfire, CHNorthern Mystic, CHSue Elegant, Principal, Tijuana Topaz, and many more.
