The 1790 U.S. Census listed two George Teaters (various spellings), one with a wife; Mary Ann Margaret Hinkel and children: Paul Teter, Jacob Teter, Joseph Teter, Isaac Teter, Mary Teter, Barbara Teter, Susanne Margaret and George Teter. These people are not related to this Lathan family.

The other George Teater (various spellings), with wives (1) Sarah Pearis mar. 1762 and (2) Easter Griffith mar. 1796 is, based on wives and children, the George Teater of the Lathan Family.

George Teater a resident of Washington County Virginia, served as a Revolutionary War Soldier from Washington County Virginia from 1776 until 1783 with the rank of Ens/Va.

He served in Capt. Gist's Company of Regulars of the First Virginia Regulars from Botetourt County Va. as listed for December of 1779.

Historical Note on Revolutionary War ranks: An Ensign was a standard or flag carrier who was always near, usually beside, the commander of their unit. He was usually a junior officer or senior non-commissioned officer. His purpose was to be a visible rally point during the smoke and confusion of battle. It was a risky job as he and the commander next to him were prime targets. By killing the Ensign the enemy had a good chance of creating confusion.
