John Arthur BOYD1 was born on 12 Oct 1805 in HArrison Co., Ky. He died after 1887. From "Portrait & Biographical Album of Coles County, Illinois"

John Boyd was born in Harrison County, Kentucky, Oct 12, 1805, and is the son of Arthur Boyd. About the year 1817, his parents removed to Fayette County, Ind, and subsequently to Rush County, where his marriage to Miss Rebecca Maze took place. Mrs Boyd was likewise a native of Harrison County, Kentucky, and was born Aug 25, 1810.

In 1851, John Boyd removed with his family to Illinois, settling in Hutton Township, Coles County. They remained on a farm there nine years, and then removed to North Okaw Township, where Mr. Boyd operated a sawmill one year, and subsequently changed his residence to Humbolt Township. While operating the sawmill in North Okaw Township, he met with an accident which crippled his hands so seriously as to render him unfit for manual labor, in consequence of which he opened a boarding-house in Humbolt. After managing the house five years he was obliged to relinquish active business, and is now passing the closing years of his life in the home of his son, Joseph E. Boyd. He was blest with a vigourous physique, and although eighty-two years of age is still hale and hearty. He has recently been bereaved of the beloved companion, who shared the joys and sorrows of a long life with him, her death occurring in December, 1886. They had a family of nine childred, five of whom grew to maturity. Ther record is as follows: William A. deceased; Mary E. deceased, was formely the wife of Dr. V. R. CHAPTER VI. page 162
The descendants of Samuel Boyd inherited anti-slavery principles from childhood. The idea seemed to be inherent with them that God had given to the whole human family certain inalienable rights and that among these were life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. During the long conflict in which the talent of our great nation was exerting master skill in trying to harmonize two contending forces, slavery and freedom, there was not in all the fraternity an apologist for the horrid features of American slavery. Denunciations went up long and loud when Henry Clay presented his infamous bill called the "Fugitive Slave Law," Ah, why was slavery allowed to set its cloven foot' upon soil that had been consecrated to freedom by the blood of patriots, by the martyred hosts that had been sacrificed in the name of liberty? It was a canker-worm that had been left to prey upon the vitals of our nation, sapping its life blood and spreading blight and mildew in its course through a long vista of years, germinating strife and internal discord until it at last culminated in the great rebellion. When the civil war broke out and the martial drums were beating and calling loudly for vollunteers, there was but one family of the Boyds that gave a heavy response to the call and that was the family of John Boyd, then living in Dublin. Four sons and two sons-in-law enlisted in the Union army, all of them heads of families. Three of them never saw home after they went into the service, and one came home an invalid and died from disease contracted in the army. The late Dr. Samuel S. Boyd, of Dublin, was the oldest of the four brothers who enlisted in the army. He was surgeon of the Eighty-fourth Indiana Regiment.

Linn BOYD , Sr.
Sex: M
Birth: 22 NOV 1800 in Nashville, TN
Death: 17 DEC 1859 in Paducah, KY
Note:
LINN BOYD was elected in 1835 and served sixteen consecutive years in the lower house of Congress from the 1st Congressional District in Kentucky, the last four of which he was speaker of the house, until 1855. (THE UNITED STATES BIOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY, P.583.) In 1826 was a farmer in Calloway County, KY, and in 1859 was elected Kentucky Lieutenant Governor, but died before taking office.

Linn was a farmer, lawyer, and legislator. In 1819, he assisted in securing the Chickasaw Indian Lands known as the Jackson Purchase. He moved to the new area, farmed in Calloway County, and served in the KY legislature from 1827 to 1831. He served in Congress from 1835 to 1855, and was speaker of the House. Linn Boyd was a supporter of Andrew Jackson, the Democratic Party, the annexation of Texas, and preservation of the Union. He was in Congress when Henry Clay brought forth his memorable compromise bill, and through Col. Boyd's influence, it was passed.

Linn, second son of Abram Boyd, married secondly, a widow MRS. ANN L. (RHEY) DICKERSON, and they had one son RHEY BOYD. He grew up to be a tall handsome man, blond and blue-eyed like his father; was talented and eloquent, studied law and entered politics. He had every prospect of being the rising young of the State; but, reared by an indulgent and unprincipled mother, he lacked that sturdy honesty and manly independence that characterized his father's race. He disgraced himself in many ways, ruined his career, and was married twice, caused the death of his first wife (Lucy Boyd Grimes) and ended his own miserable life by suicide in 1886.

LINN met ANN at the White House in Washington, D.C. She was a niece of President Filmore. She was a strong minded, arrogant, unprincipled woman and drove her husband's sons from their home. Parents: Abraham BOYD and Nancy Agnes LINN.

Spouse: Alice BENNETT. Linn BOYD and Alice BENNETT were married in 1822.

Liza BOYD1 was born about 1823. Parents: Robert BOYD and Narcissa STINSON.
