Elijah Walker
The census records indicate that he was born between 1760-1765, and he was born in Va. or NC. The latter is probably the correct location in view of the fact that his father, Thomas Walker, stated he was living in NC in 1770.
It is believed that he was first married in NC. The census records show his eldest son was born there. We believe Elijah Walker was married a second time in SC. It would appear that Elijah Walker moved from NC to
SC durng te latter part of 1787. His eldest son was born in NC on 10-12-1787, and the record in Greenville, County, SC, in Deed Book E, Page 261 and 262, refers to his purchase of land from A. Burke who stated "whereas Elijah Walker of the Golden Grove gave me two notes of hand bearing date 1787, each note for the sad Walker's paying me $150 both together $300 which money he was to pay me on my making him titles
to a tract of land which he rented of me and whereas I have executed to him the said titles and he has paid me the said $300 with interest etc".
He moved from Greenville, County, SC in 1802. Recorded in Deed Book F, Page 423, on March 16, 1802, is and "Indenture made March 12, 1802, between Elijah Walker and Dorcas Walker of one part and Israel Charles, of the other part, both of Golden Grove Creek ____ tract of land whereon said Elijah and Dorcas now lives situated on the situated on the Golden Grove Creek and whch tract of land Adonus Burke obtained from the State of SC by grant bearing date the 15 October 1784".
Elijah Walker appears on the 1800 census for Greenville District, SC, as house #870, Males 2-0/10, 1-10/16, 1-26/45; Females: 2-010, 1-26/45; and two slaves.
Elijah Walker first appears in Garrard County, Ky., on the 5-28-1802 Tax List. He is owner of 400 acres on Paint Lick Creek on the Tax List for 7-15-1803, and 3-27-1804. He has 310 acres in 1805, and 540 acres in
1808. He lived on Back Creek, later on Paint Lick Creek, in the Beech Grove Church area. During the latter years of hs life he lived in the brick house above the bottom lands on Paint Lick Creek just above Beech
Grove Church. It is not known definitely where he and his wife was buried, but probably in the cemetery just back of the old brick house.
Garrard County Order Book 17, Page 155, for November Court 1823,states that Elijah Walker was the surveyor of a road.
The order Book 1, Page 235, April Court 1833, administration of estate of Elijah Walker, deceased, was granted to JOSEPH POND, widow relinquishing her rights. This would indicate he died in 1833. He may have been a victim of a cholea epidemic which occured in Garrard Count during that year claiming many victims.
A number of rcords in Garrard County clearly establish the children of this family, particularly Deed Book N, Pages 277, 279, 294 and 460.
In Order Book 21, Page 318, March Court 1845, William Steen was granted the administration of the estate of Dorcas Walker, deceased. His security was James Sanders for $3,000. Parents: Thomas WALKER and Juley LNU.
