These recordswere repeatedly and vigorously challenged by Martha, who recalled thatSilas had come home with a large amount of money. Family lore says that there was Native American blood. My research leadsme to believe there is Melungeon blood. According to W. Warnick "AbramWarnik, a negro, was a paid workman in 1786 on what is today MD RT 135heading West toward WV." Melungeons were a people of Indian, Negro andCaucasian blood that had been pushed into the mountains from 1600-1800.They had Turkish, Portuguese and possibly Sephardic Jewish blood. SilasWarnick was described as having a "dark complexion" onhis civil war draft application.
