Born in Northern Ireland of Scottish parents, he immigrated to Philadelpphia in 1718 and eventually settled at Lunenberg, Bedford County, Virginia. On 18 Oct. 1760 William BOYD of Flatt Creek, Virginia wrote his will. "Gave to dearly beloved wife Elizabeth an equal part of my real and personal estate with my children John, James, Robert, Francis, Joseph, Lettice, Elizabeth, Rhoda Ann and Martha. I order all my lands and inprovements to be sold when my son John come to age of 21 years with all my cattle, hogs, household goods and working tools and then divided in equal parts as above mentioned and given to my children aforesaid when of age." Executors: Wife Elizabeth, Robert Russel and Stephen Goggins. Wits. Thomas Pitman, Jno. Thompson and Mary Russel.

William Boyd, the third son of Samuel Boyd was born in Madison County, Kentucky 24 March 1781. He was twice married. First to Mary Owen; she dying, he married Ruth Young, formerly Martindale. He owned a large and beautiful farm on the Walnut Level where he died September 22, 1846. He left three sons and two daughters. Samuel Boyd, his oldest son, lived in Hagerstown and was killed by a saw-log rolling over his body December 23, 1889. John Boyd the second son, lived on a farm near New Lisbon. He died about 1890. William M. Boyd the third son lives in Indianapolis where he is engaged in the merchantile business. The two daughters, Mary and and Nancy, live in Dublin, where their mother, Ruth Boyd, settled when she left the farm. They tenderly cared for her in her declining years. Her life only lacked six years of completing a century. She had one daughter by her first husband, Patsy Young, who married Branson Harris. They are the parents of A. C. Harris, an attorney of Indianapolis, and Alonzo Harris, a farmer near Washington, Wayne county.

ABNER M. BRADBURY was born in Warren Co., O., July 8, 1798, removed from Butler Co., at the age of 17, to Martindale's creek, 3 miles west of the town of Washington, and, with his brother John, built a small fulling mill in 1815. In 1820, he settled in Harrison township. In March, 1821, he married Mary, a daughter of Samuel Boyd. He was, in 1820, appointed deputy sheriff under Abraham Elliott; was a delegate to the Whig National Convention in 1848; was elected in that year an associate judge for Wayne Co.; and in 1832, 1833, and 1834, elected a representative in the legislature. In 1836, he was elected a senator, and held two years; and again in 1841, for three years. In April, 1869, he removed to Cambridge City, where he now resides. His children are: 1. Isabel, who married James Leeson, of Harrison township. 2. Caroline, wife of James Russell, Alexandria, Madison Co. 3. William H., who married Jane Kinley. 4. Elizabeth, wife of Isaac Harned, of Cambridge City. 5. James L., who married Eveline Nicholson, and resides near Newcastle. 6. Martha, wife of Josephus Mundell, of Hagerstown. 7. As a farmer and tobacco grower, he had managedseveral tobacco warehouses and was currently associated with theLexington Loose Leaf Tobacco Warehouse, a member of the Kentucky FarmBureau of which he was a former Director, was Treasurer of the JessamineCounty Fair Board for 35 years, and had served as Deputy Sheriff from1966- 1970 with the late Vernon Burton. He is survived by his wife of 32years, Marilyn Myers Bradshaw; her parents Dorcas and Ted Myers,Lexington; a daughter Roxanna Bradshaw, Lexington; a sister Anna E.Bradshaw, Nicholasville; three brothers, Avon Bradshaw, Jr. and wifeLena, Nicholasville, Ray Bradshaw and wife Phyllis, Nicholasville, andCecil Dean Bradshaw and wife Helen, Jessamine Co.; along with numerousnieces and nephews. Services will be 11am Wednesday, July 9 at Hager &Cundiff Funeral Home on Oak St., with the Rev. Gayle Toole, Rev. JimHarrison and Charles Miller officiating; burial in Blue Grass MemorialGardens. Pallbearers will be Avon Bradshaw, Ray Bradshaw, Cecil Bradshaw,Randy Shelley, Dennis Peck and Jay Bruner. Honorary bearers will be hisnephews, the Jessamine County Fair Board, Jack Gillentine, StuartGritton, Bill Sparks, Harold Waits, and Harlan Veal, Sr. Visitation wasTuesday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in his memory tothe Jessamine County FFA.
