William's father was Samuel Campbell whose will was written in 1745 and proven on November 3rd 1745 or7 in Lancaster County PA. Copies of Samuel's, Hugh's and William's wills were discovered together in the "Campbell" file in the PA State Library.They had been there for numerous years. Samuel's has the register of will's verification from 1930 on it (family lore states that my great uncle had a genealogist doing research at some point). Children mentioned in Samuel's will are Hugh( married to Margaret), William,(married to Rebickah, Jean (married James Clark), and Mary ( married Thomas Bowman). Samuel was an elder of the Donegal Presbytery at Conewago in 1743.
Hugh first appears in New London Twp Chester County PA tax records in 1739. His children were Elizabeth (m Hugh Hagans), John, Samuel, William, Thomas, Isabella (m William King), Mary and Benjamin (m Mary Adair).

Samuel Campbell was born in Prince Edward County, Va. in 1743; moved to Bedford Co., Va. in 1770, thence to Madison Co., Ky. in 1780 or 81 and died in Madison Co., Ky. in 1821. Married the widow of John Kennedy nee Mary Anderson, daughter of John Anderson and Annie Irvine. I have heard that Samuel Carpenter was a Captain of the Revolution and had charge of an arsenal. Samuel's 2nd wife was Sarah CROZIER; married in 1825/9. Sarah d. Jan. 24, 1876; Sarah was the dau. of John CROZIER of Springfield, PA. Samuel d. Mar. 28, 1856.
Samuel Y. CAMPBELL lived in Abington, VA., in 1812, 1813 and 1814, and there, by his 1st marriage, became connected with the Holston CAMPBELL's, whose ancestor, John CAMPBELL; a scotsman, moved 1st to Ireland, and then to Phila. PA., in 1726. Samuel Y. CAMPBELL died at Upland, DEL. Mar. 28, 1856. His wife died Jan. 24, 1876.
He left numerous wealthy and respectable relations. James HAGAN has 5 or 6 brothers who resided in the southern part of the State in 1848.

AMBROSE CARLTON was a native of Virginia, born in 1764, and about the year 1788 married Mary Montgomery, of his native State. Their family consisted of five children, and in 1816, they settled in Lawrence County, Indiana, where they lived the balance of their lives. Mr. Carlton was one of the pioneer preachers of Indiana in the Baptist faith. His death occurred in 1832. Robert M. Carlton, one of their sons, was born in Berks County, N.C., in the year 1794, and was with his father's family when came to Indiana in 1816. He married Levina Barlow of Kentucky, about 1821, and together they reared a family of six children, these five now living: William, Ambrose, Maria L. (Huston), James and Robert H. Robert M. Carlton was one of the principal men of the county, and at different times carried on farming, grist and saw milling, wool-carding and merchandising on the river to New Orleans. In politics he was a Jeffersonian Democrat, and held several important positions in the county, among them being that of Representative in the State Legislature during the term 1837. His youngest son is Robert H. Carlton, born November 27, 1834, and has been engaged in the drug trade at Bedford ever since 1855. He received a high school education, and is considered one of the best mathematicians in the county, having followed civil engineering on the Louisville, New Albany & Chicago Railroad for some time. His marriage to Miss Sally L. Denson, of Bedford, was June 19, 1877. He is a Master Mason, and has held nearly all the offices in Bedford Lodge No. 14. Politically he is Democrat, and as
such was Treasurer of Bedford two years and in 1880 was elected County Clerk, being the only Democrat in the county elected that year.
