"Our first known ancestors are Jessie and Susanna Caudle (1790 census,Chatham N.C.) they had at least two children, Sarah (m. Frances Bridges) and Joshua (b. 1770) who m. Elizabeth Greene. In the early 1800's Jesse and Joshua moved their families to Maury/Marshall County, Tn. where Joshua was deacon of the Shiloh (Rock Creek) baptist church near Lewisburg, for several years. Joshua's children were William G., Jesse, Joshua D. M. Christian, Isham, John, Thomas P and Samuel."

The 1830 Macoupin Co. Census has Joshua Coddle, Isham Coddle, John Coddle and Jarvis Coddle.
Joshua has in his household a male 60-70 . He would have been 60 at thetime. He has a male between 5 and 10, two 10-15, one 15-20, one female50-60. Who was Jarves Coddle (Caudle) who was 30-40 years old in 1830? Must be related. Also on 1830 census is Fountain Land who was a half brother to Hester Ann Butcher who m. Thomas Parish Caudle as her mother Rebecca Narcissus Rentfro m. first John Land ( and had two children: Fountain and Cecilia) and married second Isaac Butcher.
In the book History of the Disciples in Illinois 1819-1914, pages 427-434 online edition 1997 by James L. McMillan, various churches of Wayne Co., Illinois are mentioned. The Buckeye church at Jeffersonville wasorganized in 1840. this online book says: "In 1939 a number of families emigrated from Columbiana, Carroll, and Stark Counties, Ohio and settled in Lamard Prarie. All of these were Disciples. Among them were Jesse Milner, Isaac and Edward Whitaker, Jonas and Fentore Lumm, John Morlan,Martin Emmons, Noah Towns, James McNeeley, John Skelton, James A. Maslan, and Townsend Richards. About the same time a few families came from Tennessee and settled in the same neighborhood. Among them were the Butcher and Candle families, Edward Puckett and others who were also members of the Christian Church.
The Candle family mentioned is surely Caudle. Hester Butcher married Thomas Parish Caudle. They are both buried in Buckeye cemetery. Parents: Jesse CAUDLE and Susana LNU.

Caudle is listed on IllinoisPublic Domain Land Tract Sales Database as having purchased 80 acres ofland in Wayne County then made two purchases of 40 acres each inMacoupin followed by another 80 acres followed by 80.23 acres in WayneCo., Illinois. It seems he was in Wayne County then moved to Macoupin andthen moved back to Wayne Co. where he died April 27, 1851. He fought inthe Blackhawk War, enlisting in Macoupin County as a private in P SharpCompany Regiment 4.
