Irene Cobb Taylor Garrett, 88, of Taylor Ridge Road in Nicholasville, thewidow of Etridge N. Taylor, and her second husband, Willie Garrett, diedSept. 12. She was a member of Mount Lebanon Church.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Marvin and Patty Taylor ofNicholasville; a daughter and her husband, Betty M. and Denver Townsendof Monticello; six grandchildren and their spouses, Darrell and DianeTownsend, Debbie Gibson, Mike and Penny House, Sherry and Jim Hendrix,Daniel and Terry Townsend, and Eric Townsend; six great-grandchildren,seven stepchildren; a special cousin, Dale Cotton; a special niece,Henrietta McDermott; and many other nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Marty Taylor, and two brothers.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday at Betts & West Funeral Home withthe Rev. Thomas Falin and the Rev. Hugh Delaney officiating. Burialfollowed at Maple Grove Cemetery. Bearers were Tommy, Timmy and GeraldCobb, Keith Lowry, Darrell and Bobby Casey. Honorary bearers were EdMayfield, W.T. Brumfield, John Perry, Bernard Cobb, J.S. Cobb, EldonCobb, Danny Johns and Jerry Garrett.

He reportedly fought in the battle of 1812 andwas"one of the very few" to come out alive. "General John", as relativesreferred to the venerable Jessamine Countian, died in 1883. He was theson of Ventor Cobb who may have been the first Cobb to settle inJessamine County . Mrs. Susan White Cobb, John Cobb's wife, died in 1881at the age of 100. Relatives claim that Mrs.Cobb was a half-sister toAbraham Lincoln's mother, the source declares. Hubert P. Cobb says theearly Jessamine Countian is a distant grandfather.
