AMBROSE COBB was born January 3, 1832, and is the youngest of tenchildren born to John and Susan (White) Cobb, natives of RockinghamCounty, N. C. John Cobb came to Jessamine County with his father, VintnerCobb, who died here. John was born in 1773; was a farmer, and died withAsiatic cholera
in 1833. Ambrose Cobb, a native of Jessamine County, was reared on thehome farm, receiving a common school education. At the age of twenty hebecame a partner with his brother, John, in the mercantile business nearBig Hickman, and continued but one year. He married, April 3, 1852,
Malinda Hunter, daughter of Henry Hunter, a native of Jessamine County,whose father, Henry Hunter, immigrated from Pennsylvania. They has sixchildren: Mary F., William H., Ann M., Margaret E., Richard H. andAmbrose M. Mr. Cobb owns 145 acres of land. He is a member of theMethodist
Episcopal Church at Pleasant Hill. He is also a member of the Masonicfraternity. He was elected magistrate in 1866 and served two terms. Hewas postmaster at Sulphur Well while selling goods, which was hisoccupation in Garrard County in 1878. In 1881 he began to sell goods in
Jessamine County and continued until 1883. Since then he has been ageneral stock trader. William H. Cobb was born August 22, 1854; marriedMay 8, 1878, Maggie Burdine, daughter of John Burdine of Jessamine County.
